G.A.S.P. Receives Commendation from Summit County Council
On September 20, 2010, G.A.S.P. received a commendation from the Summit County Council recognizing "the vital contributions that Guardians Against Sexual Predators have made for children and families in this community."
The entire wording of the commendation is as follows:
WHEREAS, Guardians Against Sexual predators (GASP) was founded by CEO Fran Doll on July 1, 2006 as a group of concerned grandparents and community volunteers dedicated to delivering programs and services for child safety and protection; and
WHEREAS, in the past four years, more than 4,000 children have been fingerprinted, and the group now consists of nearly 120 volunteers who serve as a civilian arm of law enforcement trained by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office to provide “extra eyes an ears” in finding missing and/or abducted children including Amber Alert situations; and
WHEREAS, GASP volunteers are active in educating the community with programs to improve sexual-abuse awareness and prevention, including Internet safety, and protecting children through various programs such as identification kits, Speakers Bureau, Courtroom Observation, scanning predator files and Neighborhood Safety Patrols; and
WHEREAS, due to their efforts, GASP has been effective in assisting the Summit County Sheriff’s Office nab several sex predators, including 20 parole violators.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it known by all and declared by the Council of the County of Summit, State of Ohio that this Council recognizes the vital contributions that Guardians Against Sexual Predators have made for children and families in this community.
We urge all citizens to join in honoring GASP on this 20th day of September in the year 2010, and encourage them on their continued commitment to child safety and protection.
